Gillian Brodie says: It was a great pleasure to judge such an exciting art competition. A wide variety of ideas were expressed, to what is a fundamental, near impossible question, and one that scientists and artists alike have undoubtedly been trying to answer for years. What does actually make us human? Something one can do no more than give their own interpretation of.  The young artists that entered this competition did a splendid job of effectively conveying their creative understandings of this question.

Sarah Campbell says: This is the second year I have been involved as a judge and I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to see such a fantastic range of artistic responses to the questions set by the MRC. The ability to express an idea creatively and visually is key to both an understanding of science and the role of artists in society. This competition brings these two strands together in a novel way that is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their work.

Harvey McMahon says: This is a wonderful artistic expression of very complex scientific ideas, that helps the viewer understand the complexity and to come away with a deeper and more syncretic understanding. The different media applied to the topics added to the interest.
